Practice Makes Perfectly You
I’ve stated before that the one and only thing you have
control over with regards to the outcome of a pageant, is knowing you are the
best YOU when you compete.
How do you go about doing that? I’m glad you asked!
Assess Your Preparedness in Each Competition Phase
List off every area of competition, then assess each area by
thinking about how prepared and confident you feel? If you feel lacking in any
area, the best way to build that confidence is to PRACTICE and VISUALIZE.
Your brand image & wardrobe are other areas to consider.
You must feel like an “11” with your hair, make-up and wardrobe for others to
see it as well. Self-image – which comes from within – is crucial to your
success in a pageant or anything for that matter!
Dress Rehearsal
For the last few weeks leading up to the pageant, when practicing
your walk and posing, on-stage question, or personal interview, the best way to
prepare is to do it all full-out! Wear the outfit and heels - it will put you
in the mindset of how you want to feel when you’re competing. I highly suggest
taking a couple weekend days where you do your hair/make-up, run through each
phase of competition and ask your coach, friends and family to be your mock
judges for the day!
Nerves are Meant to Serve You
You will get nerves before every competition phase, it’s completely
natural, but you are in control of how your mind perceives those nerves.
Most people who are nervous about public speaking or competing
are nervous because of the uncertainty of the outcome. They let their head
wander with a bunch of unnecessary thoughts and sometimes fill themselves with
doubtful, worry-filled self-talk. NO!!! Do
not even go there. Change your mindset to know your nerves are serving you with
motivational juice to give your all and shine on that stage. Let your diva out
and own that thing!
You know you busted your bust to prepare yourself to your
best ability. You know you are going to have an amazing performance or
interview. Know this, re-affirm this to yourself before and after each
competition phase.
